FMC Technologies‘ Topside Control Systems incorporate design innovations to adjust to the changing demands of today’s subsea environment.

Master Control Station (MCS) - User Configurable Open System (UCOS)
UCOS is the result of a global initiative to create a superior controls system based on standardized components. FMC Technologies’ topside controls systems introduce component standardization to improve execution, accelerate delivery time and maximize return on investment, and features hardware-independent software solutions to improve the long-term cost of ownership.
• Topside master control station providing a user interface, alarm management, data historian, safety critical functions
• Condition performance monitoring
• Hardware independent
• Proven industry track-record
• Simple interface – turnkey integrated solution
• Automated configurations
• Security – cyber security independently audited
Subsea Power and Communication Unit (SPCU)
FMC Technologies’ Subsea Power and Communication Unit (SPCU) connects to the SCM; its modular design improves the ability to upgrade the power and communications hardware and software as technologies and system requirements change. This design adds greater reliability and flexibility as well as ease of service and maintenance.

Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)
FMC Technologies’ Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) provides redundant low and high-pressure hydraulic supplies to the subsea system. The self-contained and totally enclosed HPU operates autonomously under the control of its dedicated programmable logic controller (PLC), which provides pump motor control, interlocks and interface with the MCS.

Topside Umbilical Termination Assembly (TUTA)
The Topside Umbilical Termination Assembly (TUTA) provides the interface between the main umbilical and the topside controls equipment. The unit is a free-standing enclosure that can be bolted or welded in a location adjacent to the umbilical hang-off in a hazardous, exposed environment onboard the topside facility.

Tree Controls
The main component of the tree-mounted control system is the Subsea Control Module (SCM). The SCM contains electronics, instrumentation and hydraulics for safe and efficient operation of subsea tree valves, chokes and downhole valves. Other tree-mounted equipment includes various sensors and electrical and hydraulic connectors.

Over 1,000 subsea wells are controlled using FMC Technologies’ tree-mounted control systems with an up-time rate of 99 – 100% for most systems. The technology today controls wells at distances up to 75 miles (120 km), and in water depths of 10,000 ft (3,000 m) with 15k reservoir pressure rating.

FMC Technologies’ standard SCMs are available in various sizes and functionality.

Electrical Flying Leads (EFL)
The Electrical Flying Lead (EFL) connects communication on power circuits between various pieces of subsea distribution equipment. The EFL has different configurations, such as 4-way (with 4 wires), 8-way, or 12-way. The connectors at the end of the flying lead can have any plug/receptacle combination. EFLs contain ROV-type connectors at each end to allow for subsea installation and retrieval.

SCM 600 Series
FMC Technologies’ state-of-the-art Subsea Control Modules manage instrumentation and valve control, and are more advanced and flexible than previous generations. SCMs are available in various sizes and functionality, and all common standard industry interfaces are supported. The SCM 620 is the latest technology available, and features:
•Faster updates, modifications and changes to the system; preventing interference with operations
•Increased reliability
•Life of Field management and standardization
•Provide cutting-edge technology in support of production field management
They support traditional interfaces as well as:
•Ethernet (TCP/IP)
•Fiber-optic communication (1 gigabit per second)
•IWIS interface CAN-bus interface SIL rated solutions 1, 2 and SIL 3
SCMs are backwards-compatible and upgradable with improved communication. Each module is configurable and offers improved reliability.

Electric Control
Electric control systems are an attractive alternative to existing electro-hydraulic systems, offering benefits such as:
•Reduced umbilical costs
•Long offset capability
•Fast and accurate operational response
FMC Technologies’ field-proven electric controls utilize standard low power/voltage technology with a configurable system available to upgrade existing hydraulic systems already in operation.

Subsea Distribution
FMC Technologies‘ Subsea Distribution Systems consist of a group of products providing communication from subsea controls to topside. These products are developed based on FMC Technologies’ field-proven technology and years of experience.

Electrical Flying Leads (EFL)
The Electrical Flying Lead (EFL) connects communication on power circuits between various pieces of subsea distribution equipment. The EFL has different configurations, such as 4-way (with 4 wires), 8-way or 12-way. The connectors at the end of the flying lead can have any plug/receptacle combination. EFLs contain ROV-type connectors at each end to allow for subsea installation and retrieval.

Steel Flying Leads (SFL)
FMC Technologies has developed an encapsulated Steel Flying Lead (SFL) product line. Design innovations have been incorporated to handle the increasingly harsher subsea environment that customers encounter in their operations. FMC Technologies’ SFL surface deployment system handles up to two 1,000 foot SFLs and utilizes a minimum amount of equipment and deck space; additionally, surface deployment eliminates the need for on-board heavy lift equipment. Installation time is reduced to 4-6 hours depending on water depth and length of the SFL.

Umbilical Termination Head (UTH)
The Umbilical Termination Head (UTH) is a box structure attached to the subsea production control umbilical armor termination. Individual umbilical lines and cables are terminated inside. Hydraulic/chemical services are terminated to a multiple quick-connect (MQC) junction plate. Electrical quad cables are terminated to an electrical termination assembly which splits the service to a group of bulkhead electrical connectors.

Installation and Workover Control System (IWOCS)
FMC Technologies’ Installation and Workover Control System (IWOCS) is used to monitor and control the deployment and operation of subsea production equipment for both horizontal and vertical trees. The same system is also used for the retrieval and workover of this equipment. Our systems can be used in large, multi-well field development systems, as well as single-well deployment and interventions.
