Wellsite Plugging and Plug Trimming Services

Reservoir Group supply and operate an air powered plugging tool and a subsequent plug trimmer to improve and expedite core analysis.

The Reservoir Group Plugging Tool is capable of cutting plugs from sleeved core. The tool is stationed within a core processing cabin and is able to cut through all types of standard inner barrel before sampling the core.

The plugging tool is an air powered device which is mounted on a drill stand for added stability. While cutting the plug, the core is stabilized by a clamp and an air driven pump provides cooling and cleaning to the plug as it is being cut. The Plugging Tool is designed to be self-lubricating to ensure proper operation in both dry and humid environments. Many types of fluid can be utilized to lubricate the cut (oil, water, brine, liquid nitrogen, etc.).

The Reservoir Group Plug Trimmer is a system that ensures plugs taken with the Reservoir Group Plug Taker have perfect ends. It guarantees that every cut will be at 90° to the plug axis and clean faced. With the plug trimmed and marked at the wellsite, it is ready for immediate analysis.

The entire unit contains the saw blade, with the minimum exposure required to trim the plug, thus ensuring maximum operator security and safety. The operator’s hands are well away from the saw blade at all stages of the trimming process and the unit is powered down prior to the removal of the trimmed plug. The saw blade cutters are made of tungsten carbide to ensure a smooth cut with minimal heat transfer.

As with all Reservoir Group Coring Services and Supplies, safety and the maintenance of formation integrity are the primary concerns. This tool adds to the extensive suite of our available techniques for formation evaluation in the safest and most efficient manner at well site. The plug trimmer is certificated to operate both on land and offshore.
