Freezing the core is one method of stabilization when dealing with very unconsolidated formations. Halliburton has proven methods and equipment that enable us to freeze a nine meter section of core with liquid nitrogen before it is cut up. We have also developed processes that allow us to freeze the core vertically with liquid nitrogen. After freezing the core with these methods, we provide specially designed freezer boxes that hold up to 27 meters of core, packed in dry ice, ensuring that the cores stay frozen until they have reached the laboratory.
