High-pressure zones may require heavyweight cements such that the density of the cement in the annular column is greater than the fluid pressure in the permeable formation. At the same time, hydrostatic pressure should not exceed the fracture gradient so as to avoid fracturing the formation during cement placement. Additionally, slurry density should be sufficiently higher than drilling fluid density in order to optimize mud displacement and minimize cement contamination by the mud. Heavyweight cements range from 16.5 lb/gal to more than 22 lbs/gal.
Slurry density has a direct effect on hydrostatic pressure. The ability of the cement column to transmit full hydrostatic pressure to the formation helps eliminate formation fluids from entering into the cement column and diffusing within the cement sheath in order to help avoid remedial cementing operations.
DenseSeal™ Cement
Designed to perform effectively at elevated densities
With Tuned Cementing Solutions™ cementing systems, Halliburton has created a set of innovative fit-for-purpose solutions with the flexibility required to allow each system to be tuned specifically for a given set of wellbore conditions. DenseSeal cements form one of these families of fit-for-purpose solutions.
With DenseSeal cements you receive a foamed cementing solution designed to perform effectively at elevated densities using specially tuned systems. Foam cement normally is used to reduce cement slurry density. DenseSeal cements can provide the additional benefits of increased compressibility and elasticity gained through the introduction of stable, well-dispersed small N2 bubbles at higher densities.
GraniteCem™ Cements
Designed to be harder than standard cements
With Tuned Cementing Solutions™ cementing systems, Halliburton has created a set of innovative fit-for-purpose solutions with the flexibility required to allow each system to be tuned specifically for a given set of wellbore conditions. GraniteCem cements form one of these families of fit-for-purpose solutions.
With GraniteCem cement you receive a conventional cementing solution designed to be harder than standard cements when well conditions require an exceptionally hard sheath.
