Hydraulic fracturing has enabled the profitable development of oil and gas fields that were bypassed as non-productive shales in years past. ‘Fracing’ has been around for many years and has evolved from the early days of ‘bullheading’ down the pipe to ‘plug and perf’ operations to graduated ball drop sliding sleeves. A new generation of fracing technology is in development – ‘pinpoint fracing’. As with each of the prior iterations, this new era of multi-stage fracing will bring dramatic increases in well productivity and significant cost improvement
Interwell has established multiple patents to lead the way in this new technology – from the top down using a travelling ball seat. The InterFrac system is now in the prototyping stage with functional and full-scale testing underway in Norway and Texas. Once proven, the InterFrac system will provide a single trip, heel-to-toe, fullbore, intervention-less system for extended reach completions. InterFrac systems will deliver an unlimited number of pinpoint frac stages for fast, efficient, multi-stage frac operations that improve well productivity and reduce the environmental impact for unconventional resource development.
